Thalapakatti Briyani

Ingredients:

Seeraga Samba rice - 2 1/2 cups
Garlic - 10 - 20
Small onion - 10 - 15
Red chilly powder - 1 1/2 tsp
Curd - 1/4 cup
Lime juice - 1/2 limes
Mint Leaves - Handful
Coriander leaves -  Little more than handful
Water - 3 1/2 cup
Salt, Oil, Ghee - As reqd

Thalapakatti Masala:
Cloves - 3
Cinnamon stick - small piece
Green elaichi - 3
Green Chilly - 3
Ginger - 50 g
Nutmeg - small piece(1/8th)
Mace - small piece

Method:
  • Soak rice for 20 mins.
  • Peel the garlic and crush it in mixie without adding water and set aside.
  • In same way crush onions and set aside.
  • In a mixie add green chillies, cloves, cinamon, elaichi and ginger.
  • Add little water to this and make puree and set aside.
  • Heat oil and ghee in a pan and puree.
  • Then add crushed garlic and onions and saute for 10 mins till oil separates.
  • Add chilly powder and mix well.
  • Add curd and then salt and little water and let it boil.
  • Now transfer this to electric rice cooker bowl.
  • Strain the rice and add it, then add lime juice.
  • Add required water and top with coriander and mint leaves.
  • Cook for the desired time.
  • Serve with salna and raita.
