Ingredients:
Moong dal - 150 g
Thoor dal - 20 g
Small onion - 10
Big onion - 1 1/2
Drumstick - 6 pieces
Tomato - 2 (fine chop)
Tamrind - 1/2 lime size
Curry Leaves - Little
Coriander Leaves - Little (fine chop)
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Hing - Little
Special Masala - 2 tbsp
Jaggery - Little
Ghee - 2 tbsp
Salt, Oil, Water - As reqd
Method:
- Soak tamrind in water.
- In a bowl add dal, turmeric powder, drumstick pieces, small onion.
- Add 2 1/2 cups of water, hing and pressure cook for 5 whistles.
- Mash the dal.
- Heat a tbsp of ghee and add curry leaves.
- Add in tomatoes and cook in low flame for 3 mins.
- Add in strained tamrind water(50 ml) and little jaggery and mix it.
- Add app 75 ml of water and mix it.
- Let it boil till raw smell leaves, app 8 mins.
- Now add the mashed dal, onion and drumstick.
- Mix it.
- Add little water according to the consistency.
- Add in salt and let it boil for 4-5 mins and turn off range.
- Add fine chopped coriander leaves and let it sit.
- Heat oil in pan and add mustard seeds, fine chopped onion and saute.
- Roast it for a while, till light golden brown.
- Turn off range.
- Add in special sambar masala and mix it.
- Add this to gravy and keep it low flame.
- Mix well.
- Add a tbsp of ghee and turn off range.
- Cover with lid and let is sit for 10 mins.
- Goes good with idly/dosa.
