KarunaiKilangu Kuzhambu


Ingredients:

Small onion - 8-10
Garlic pods - 6-8
Tamrind - Lemon size(Soak in hot water)
Karunai Kilangu - 10-12 pieces(cut into cubes)
Sambar thool - 2 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1/8 tsp
Dry red chilly - 1
Curry Leaves, Coriander Leaves - Little
Oil, Salt, Water - As reqd

Method:

  • Soak tamrind in hot water and after a while strain and set aside.
  • Boil this tamrind water.
  • Add sambar thool, turmeric and salt to this.
  • Add 1 1/2 cup of water and let it boil.
  • After few mins add karunaikilangu(elephant yam) and let it boil.
  • Heat oil in other pan and add mustard,cumin seeds and fenugreek.
  • Add in dry red chilly and curry leaves.
  • Once it splutters add in fine chopped onions and garlic and saute.
  • Add this to boiling tamrind water and let it boil.
  • Once it reduces in consistency add in pepper powder.
  • Boil this for few more mins.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with rice.
