Vazhaithandu Pappu

Ingredients:

Banana Stem - Small Piece
Onion - 1 (fine chop)
Lemon juice - 2 drops
Thoor dal - 3/4 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Hing - a pinch
Sambar thool - 1 1/2 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Coriander Leaves - Little
Curry Leaves - A sprig
Salt, Oil, Water - As reqd

Method:
  • In a bowl add water and add a spoon of curd and mix well.
  • Fine chop the banana stem and soak it in curd mix and set aside.
  • In a bowl add dal, water and turmeric powder.
  • Add hing and pressure cook for 5 whistles.
  • Mash the dal and set aside.
  • Heat oil in pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds.
  • Add in curry leaves and onion and saute for a while.
  • Wash the banana stem in normal water and strain and add it.
  • Saute this for few seconds.
  • Add the mashed dal, required salt and sambar thool.
  • Mix well and add required water.
  • Cook in low flame for 6-7 mins.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and transfer to serving bowl.
  • Now add 2 drops of lime juice and mix well and serve.
  • Goes good with rice.
